The Swallow – A Migrant’s Story
13 April 2017
6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Steve Gilbert from the RSPB describes the migratory lifestyle of Swallows, drawing attention to their movements across the world; swallows that breed in the UK migrate 10,000 miles each autumn to spend the winter in southern Africa.
Drawing parallels with the movements of people around the world, Steve will examine avian migration in relation to the themes of our April exhibition SWAY which explores identity, borders and the ongoing refugee crisis.
Steve has had a lifelong interest in birds and other wildlife, and has always found it particularly fascinating that small birds are capable of making epic journeys across the world. He has worked for the RSPB for twenty years, and is based in Brighton, but involved in projects all over South East England.
Suggested donation £3, all donations will go towards SWAY. You can also support SWAY by sponsoring one of the birds that will form part of the installation on display in the gallery.
