ART OF ATTACHMENT: BRIGHTON OASIS PROJECT

12 December 201713 December 2017

Art of Attachment

Tuesday 12 & Wednesday 13 December, 12 – 6pm FREE

YOU’RE THE BLUE ICE ON PLUTO: A Poetical exploration of the Art of Attachment.

Featuring poetry (written word and recorded sound) by women, children and young people elicited though workshops with Lemn Sissay, photographs from the workshops and drawings by artist Oscar Romp.

The Art of Attachment is an exciting programme of research and creative activity led by Brighton Oasis Project in partnership with acclaimed artists, Lemn Sissay and Charlotte Vincent and funded by Wellcome Trust and Arts Council England.

Brighton Oasis Project (BOP) is a substance misuse service for women and families in Brighton. Now entering its 20th year in operation, BOP takes a gender-specific approach to substance misuse, providing women-only groups and support to women experiencing issues with drugs or alcohol. Alongside this, Young Oasis offers 1:1 therapy to children and young people who have been affected by substance misuse in the family. Last year, BOP directly supported over 500 women and 250 children and young people.

During October, poet, writer and broadcaster Lemn Sissay visited BOP to lead poetry workshops with women, young people and children, exploring their experiences of attachment. This is an area that is of increasing importance in the fields of substance misuse, mental health and children’s services.
