Sound Art Brighton (SAB) Festival: Open Call for Proposals

Deadline 19 December

ONCA in partnership with Sound Art Brighton (SAB), is looking to commission a local artist(s) or collective to produce an interactive sound installation for ONCA gallery as part of the 2022 Sound Art Brighton festival.

Brief

ONCA in partnership with Sound Art Brighton (SAB), is looking to commission a local artist(s) or collective to produce an interactive sound installation for ONCA gallery as part of the 2022 Sound Art Brighton festival. Applicants must be based within the borders of the Brighton & Lewes UNESCO biosphere.

The installation will explore how people can experience sound art through senses other than auditory such as sight, touch and smell – making it more accessible to audiences who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing, neurodiverse or with disabilities etc.

Applicants are encouraged to consider ONCA’s programming focus on the relationship between social and environmental justice issues and SAB’s 2022 festival theme: INTER-ACTION as a starting point for the content of the installation.

The ONCA Barge at Brighton Marina will be available in January & February as a research/residency space.

We actively encourage applications from those who are underrepresented within the arts, such as artists who identify as LGBTQIA+, BlPOC, d/Deaf, disabled, neurodiverse, working class and those with care responsibilities.

Please note ONCA is led by a majority white female and gender queer team, SAB is led by a majority white female and non-binary team but will respond to the specific needs of selected artists as the budget allows.

We can accept applications in written English, video, audio or BSL. If you would like to discuss your access/care needs, or have any questions prior to submitting your application, please contact ONCA’s Exhibitions Curator & Gallery Manger Lydia: via email: or via phone/text: 07935 320766*
