Artists rise up for RISE! New Open House and Charity Sale

Guest Blog by Emma Knox

RISE is raising money to help victims of domestic abuse through their new artists’ open house!

I’m Emma and I volunteer for a charity in Brighton called RISE, which helps survivors of domestic abuse. We provide survivors and their families with refuge, information, shelter and education, ensuring they have everything they need to get their lives back on track. Since lockdown began we’ve received three times our normal amount of calls and have had to cancel many of our fundraising events. Many artists’ open houses have suffered the same fate, being cancelled or rescheduled to next year. From these two problems came a solution: Artists rise up for RISE!

We asked artists if they would be willing to donate a piece of their artwork for RISE to sell – and they delivered! We have had over thirty pieces donated, and more are coming in every day. Artists have donated a range of artwork, from sculptures to ceramics to acrylic paintings. There is something for everyone. In return we’ve set up an Etsy shop to sell the pieces but in the style of an artists’ open house. Spotlighting the artists by including photos of their studios and their biographies, in the hopes that they will get a new patron!

The support has been incredible with Mike Levy from Castor and Pollux saying:

‘We are delighted to have the opportunity to support the vitally important work that RISE do every day.’
