Vincent Dance Theatre: Virgin Territory
10 May 2017 – 21 May 2017
Exhilarating in its capture of movement, VIRGIN TERRITORY DIGITAL PRODUCTION is a series of beautiful, disarming choreographic exchanges, performed on multiple screens, designed as a new way of sharing VDT’s powerful work.
This is a bold, immersive dance theatre experience that brings the audience closer to the action on screen and explores the impact that constantly performing for the camera has on our lives. With moving, resilient performances by young people at its core, VIRGIN TERRITORY DIGITAL PRODUCTION elicits an emotional and discursive response, as we witness children playing in a hyper-sexualised adult online world.
VDT’s VIRGIN TERRITORY DIGITAL PRODUCTION premieres as part of Kate Tempest’s Brighton Festival at ONCA Gallery Brighton, 10-21 May (excluding 15/16 May), 2017.
As part of the project, Vincent Dance Theatre is offering FREE WORKSHOPS for schools and community groups at ONCA. VIRGIN TERRITORY WORKSHOPS offer a safe creative place to talk about our hyper-sexualised, highly digitised culture and how it is affecting young people’s identities, personal choices and relationships. Participants will watch VIRGIN TERRITORY and creatively respond to it through a handful of digital and craft based tasks. These ‘tasks’ help participants engage with the work and process their responses while encouraging them to make and leave their own creative mark in the gallery. Participants can work at their own pace, alone, in pairs or small groups, developing a viewpoint and owning their ideas. The ‘tasks’ can easily be used as part of an Arts Award qualification.
Workshops are for schools and community groups, up to 30 people. Age 11 yrs +
Workshops take place Wed 10 – Sun 14 May (10am – 12am daily) and Wed 17 – Sun 21 May (10am – 12am daily)
