As part of Third Thursdays – a new arts, music and culture programme that aims to make the centre of Brighton the place to be, with events, performances, film projections and new artwork commissions – the gallery will be open until 8pm to allow more people to view our current exhibition.

ONCA’s Exhibitions Curator & Gallery Manager, Lydia, will be available to talk with visitors and answer questions about the exhibition which coincides with UK LGBT+ History Month.

Image credit: photograph by artist Olga Saavedra Montes de Oca

Image description: A photographic portrait of Yordanka. The photograph differs from the rest of the photographs in the series as the artist captures the individual in the reflection of a mirror. A long thin section of mirror, which appears to have been broken as the far length is skewed, is nailed to a weathered stone wall with chipping yellow and rusty red paint. There are small holes and signs of erosion on the wall. In the mirror you can see Yordanka standing in a wooden door frame which opens up onto a street. They have their hands on their head and have a relaxed expression. They are wearing a lime green and black horizontally striped mini dress which comes up over their left shoulder to create one sleeve. The other arm and shoulder are bare. You cannot see inside the house they are standing in as it is poorly lit, except for an indistinguishable orange cushion behind them on the floor. The exterior wall of the house is painted white which is chipping away about the door. The wall is also basking in the hot morning or afternoon sunlight which also lights up Yordanka’s torso.
