The Unbearable Whiteness Of Green: An Environmental Justice Workshop
30 May
1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
£10 – £20
An online workshop exploring environmental justice through an anti-racist lens. At a time of escalating inequality and urgency within the climate movement, this workshop is for people who want to address “the unbearable whiteness of green” (Van Jones).
Through facilitated dialogue, small group work and creative activities, the session will examine the ways in which white supremacy permeates the mainstream environmental movement and the climate crisis.
This workshop is for white people and people of colour to understand and critique contemporary British and global environmentalist practices, and explore alternative models of action that centre solidarity with people of colour, and incorporate class awareness.
Please be aware during the workshop we’ll be discussing current environmental crises including air pollution in the UK, Israel-Palestine and the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Hosted by ONCA Head of Programme Susuana Amoah and Communications Manager Maddy Kelly.
This workshop will take place online via Zoom. There is a two-tier ticket system with a limited amount of solidarity tickets available which are intended for people who may be in receipt of benefits or in low-paid, part-time or insecure work.
The artwork is called The World by Susuana Amoah.
