An evening multi-media performance/photographic installation – you are invited into an indoor arborealography: photosynthesizing in situ.

Join Canadian performance eARThist Bronwyn Preece as she engages improvisationally with a multi-media photographic/ performance installation – collaborating for the first time with Brighton harpist Tracy Jane Sullivan.

Photo•Synthesis : Sol•Sticed is the culmination of a durational photographic and improvisational project rooted in interactions with trees undertaken by Bronwyn Preece. Sol•Sticed explored the liminal, luminous refractions that surround the sunrises, leading up to and after, the Winter and Summer Solstice and the sunsets of the Autumn and Spring Equinox. From an established daily 15-minute, embodied, intra-species dialogic ritual – for a full lunar-cycle on both ends of each Solstice or Equinox – 660 photographs were captured by an automated camera. Bronwyn was and is exploring how her perspectives on light/lack-of-light and temporality might be communicated through performative arboreal interactions: outdoors, and now at O N C A, indoors.

The performance will be followed by a Q & A. This event is free but donations are warmly welcomed. There will be a bar.

Artist bios:
Bronwyn Preece is a site-specific, improvisational performer, poet, author, visual and walking eARThist. She is currently pursuing her PhD through the University of Huddersfield: exploring through performance the overlaps between ecology and disability. She holds an MA and BFA in Applied Theatre. She is the pioneer of earthBODYment and became Canada’s first certified teacher of Action Theater™. She is the author of ‘In the Spirit of Homebirth: Modern Women, An Ancient Choice’ (2015), ‘Gulf Islands Alphabet’ (2012), and of the ‘Off-The-Grid Kid’, among other publications. All of Bronwyn’s work focuses on connection to place and interdependence — interrogating the dichotomies between culture and nature, self and environment. She performs and facilitates workshops internationally, working with communities and within classrooms to engage with timely issues through the arts.

Tracy Jane Sullivan’s musical career spans 2 decades, several continents and has seen her collaborate with a range of well-established talents within the industry – Dub legend Mad Professor, Herbie Flowers, Ted Barnes, Geoffrey Richardson and Danny Cummings. Now an improvisational harpist studying with renowned harpists Dr Diana Rowan (USA) and Deborah Henson Conant (USA), Tracy Jane works closely with artists, yoga teachers and healers to create bespoke harpscapes for installations, workshops and events across the UK.
