So Many Gifts: personal heritage & creative production workshop

17 April 2018
6:00 pm
8:30 pm

Facilitated by artist Alinah Azadeh

There are so many gifts

Still unopened from your birthday,

There are so many hand-crafted presents

That have been sent to you…

The Beloved does not mind repeating

“Everything I have is also yours”

So Many Gifts

An interactive art workshop for women about the process of developing a creative practice rooted in experiences of loss, migration or trauma – whether current or trans-generational.

For creative practitioners of any discipline.

Using discussion, creative writing and hands-on making exercises, we will draw on our personal and collective stories, examining the cultural legacies that influence our practices and the future actions we might take to bring that legacy into wider visibility through our work.

This workshop is part of a pilot series for So Many Gifts – an artist-led, interdisciplinary project connecting practitioners in the arts, diversity, community building, parenting support and health sectors in the south-east. It seeks to enable creative, social and political agency within the lives of women affected by – or recovering from – loss, violence, marginalisation, discrimination or structural inequality. This pilot series is supported by the Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace.

The workshop is £5 on registration but there are free bursaries available if this is a barrier for anyone wanting to attend. Included in this is a free half-hour skype / phone session with Alinah within the month following the event to support individuals to follow up on the outcomes of the workshop. The event may be audio recorded for internal evaluation purposes only.

This is a trans-inclusive workshop.
