Sharon Kilgannon: Pride

12 July 20237 August 2023

Two people stand in the street amidst the Trans Pride march kissing each other whilst wearing T-shirts that say 'Pride is a Protest'.

For Trans Pride Brighton and Brighton Pride 2023, ONCA is delighted to show works by Brighton-based photographic artist Sharon Kilgannon, aka Alonglines.

Sharon has been documenting Brighton’s LGBTQIA+ community for over a decade, generating a rich archive through photography at queer events and portraits generated through empowering collaborations with the sitters. The images here are from Trans Pride Brighton – the first and largest Trans Pride event outside America – which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

This exhibition is viewable in the ONCA window gallery from 12 July to 7 August. ‘Ten Years of Trans Joy’, a further selection of Sharon’s photographic portraits, is also on exhibition at the Ledward Centre from 14 July to 7 August.

Read the Trans Pride 2023 schedule and programme. Many elements of the weekend are BSL interpreted.

Sharon Kilgannon is a Brighton-based photographer who identifies as queer and prefers they/she pronouns. Sharon’s work is a reflection of their diverse experiences, drawing on their own identity to create powerful and evocative images. With a focus on portraiture, Sharon uses their lens to capture the essence of their subjects, highlighting their unique personalities and stories. She is also passionate about exploring the natural world and often incorporates the beauty of the outdoors into her work. Sharon’s photography has been exhibited in galleries across the UK, and she has worked with a range of clients, from musicians and artists to non-profit organisations. Follow Sharon on Instagram at @alonglines to see more of their work.
