Michele Angelo Petrone: Journey of the Soul
15 August – 17 August
Journey of the Soul celebrates Michele Angelo Petrone (1963 – 2007), invoking his memory as an ode to creativity as a form of care.
Michele Angelo Petrone was an artist who created a collection of artworks expressing the emotional aspects of living with terminal cancer. His paintings, workshops and speeches played a pivotal role in educating health professionals on the importance of complementary therapies and holistic care. Michele’s legacy has informed an integral part of ONCA’s culture and practice, manifested more recently through the NHS Wellbeing Project and Climate Cafe. You can read more about Michele’s impact at ONCA and beyond here.
Journey of the Soul is grounded in the notion that memory is a living thing. It’s aliveness being something that everybody contributes through acts of remembrance like storytelling, being inspired, listening and feeling. Memory is significant yet subtle. It allows us to connect something or someone from the past and transport them to the present moment. ONCA hopes that sharing Micheles’ artwork and story through this exhibition will create space for people to be affected and inspired by his legacy.
In this spirit, as ONCA winds down, we’re looking to re-home the MAP Collection and redistribute any funds raised to therapeutic arts cancer charities across East Sussex. Thus, we’re inviting prospective buyers and organisations to visit the exhibition, and continue the work of uplifting Michele’s work.
