Introduction to BSL | 12 Week Course
10 September 2018 – 10 December 2018
This will be a 12 week short course offering an introduction to BSL (British Sign Language), providing you with Deaf Awareness training and the confidence to begin communicating using BSL, lead by Louise Gibson.
The course fee is £150 and the dates are as follows:
Week 1: Monday 10th September, 6 – 8pm
Week 2: Monday 17th September, 6 – 8pm
Week 3: Monday 24th September, 6 – 8pm
Week 4: Monday 1st October, 6 – 8pm
Week 5: Monday 8th October, 6 – 8pm
Week 6: Monday 15th October, 6 – 8pm
TWO WEEK HALF TERM
Week 7: Monday 5th November, 6 – 8pm
Week 8: Monday 12th November, 6 – 8pm
Week 9: Monday 19th November, 6 – 8pm
Week 10: Monday 26th November, 6 – 8pm
Week 11: Monday 3rd December, 6 – 8pm
Week 12: Monday 10th December, 6 – 8pm

This fun and friendly course will equip you to communicate with Deaf people, using basic sign language skills in a variety of situations. It could help you talk to a deafened family member, a Deaf friend, a Deaf colleague or meeting Deaf people in a social environment.
The topics and overall skills you will be learning on this course include:
- Fingerspelling the alphabet, your name and where you are from
- Numbers, calendar, dates, times and colours
- Explain directions, different modes of transport and how you arrived
- Talking about friends, family and pets
- Hobbies, interests and everyday activities
- Describe people, objects and buildings
- Practice receptive, presentation and conversational skills
