IMMERSE by Gina Kawecka
1 June 2019 – 2 June 2019
‘The dream is the aquarium of the night’
– Victor Hugo
“Immerse is a moving image and sound installation illuminating the oft unseen waterscape of Brighton’s female sea swimmers. Shot in the sea using natural light, the camera movement and underwater sound create a mysterious dreamlike environment playing with notions of surface and depth, fusion and separation, reflection and inversion. Immerse goes beyond documentary into an imaginary aquatic underworld. The images pour through three vertical voile screens, encouraging the discovery of multiple viewpoints and inviting audience immersion into a mesmeric mysterious space.
The artist will be onsite at this exhibition.

The artist will be onsite at this exhibition.
Following its hugely successful exhibition at University of Brighton in 2018, Immerse has been reworked for the wonderful floating ONCA Barge exhibition space.
In collaboration with Beacon Hub Brighton CIO this event aims to intrigue those who have never tried sea swimming in our cooler waters and invites visitors to connect physically with the sea to benefit their mental health and immune systems. Peer reviewed scientific research is pointing to the enormous benefits of exposing our bodies to ‘cold therapy’, the natural endorphins aka ‘happy hormones’ that sea swimming releases and the boost this exposure gives to our immune systems.
