Global Witness Environmental Defenders workshop
22 September 2019
5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
It has never been more important to protect the environment and the people fighting to defend it. The battle for the environment is also a crucial battleground for human rights.
Global Climate Strike is an international movement of young people who participate in global climate strikes and a week of actions to demand an end to the age of fossil fuels and climate justice for everyone.
As part of Global Climate Strike week, Youth Strike 4 Climate Brighton and ONCA are delighted to co-host Global Witness for a workshop exploring the threats to land and environmental defenders and ways of supporting them.
Global Witness will provide an introduction to land and environmental defenders, highlighting why protecting them is crucial for the global climate movement. The session will focus on sharing stories and asks from defenders themselves, highlighting some key case studies of where businesses, investors and governments have driven attacks against defenders, and a workshopping exercise to discuss how to support them more.
This free workshop is aimed primarily at young people aged 12 – 24. If you would like to come and are not in this age group, please wait until 16 September before reserving your space!
