DResscue: Visible Mending

23 February 2021
6:00 pm
7:00 pm

A free, welcoming online workshop introducing visible mending.

Join ONCA’s DResscue Project for this online workshop exploring processes of visible mending: a simple clothing repair technique combined with creativity and conversation.

Learn how to extend the lifespan of a torn or holed garment using just a needle, thread and patch of cloth. Using this gentle process, stitch in new designs to transform a rip or hole into a work of art and a celebration! As we stitch, there will be opportunity to discuss the environmental and social impacts of fast fashion versus ‘slow’ and sustainable lifestyle activities, reflecting on how creative activity can become a tool for social change.

No prior experience is needed to join this supportive and creative session.

Each participant will need to bring:

    • A holed/ torn garment or cloth to repair
    • A scrap of cloth to cover the hole
    • A needle
    • Embroidery or cotton thread (any colour)
    • A pencil or chalk
    • Pins (not essential but they do make the process easier)
