During a week-long residency at the ONCA Barge, UnderExposed will use the space provided as a base to engage in local and international dialogues between creatives, facilitate useful discussions for emerging artists, and democratise the way – that as artists – we make and/or display our practice.
About the Residency
Wednesday 7th August: Opening Event at ONCA Barge | Collaborative Imaginaries, 6:00-8:30pm
We invite visitors to collaboratively ‘warm-up’ and get a feel of what UnderExposed plans to do on the Barge for the duration of the residency. For us, a residency is to create space for communication, allow collaboration to foster imaginative futures through artist practice and reflection. How will we do this? Through play, imaginative narratives and sonic meditation.
Free but please sign up here.
Monday 12th August: Crit for Local Artists led by Creative Storm, 6:00-8:30pm
UnderExposed collaborates with 2 Brighton based graduate artists who hold an open and friendly monthly meet-up. Creative Storm offers a great opportunity for emerging artists to show ongoing projects to fellow artists, whilst collectively giving and receiving feedback.
Free but please sign up here.
9th – 17th August: Barge Residency
Throughout the Barge Residency, UnderExposed will be engaging in a series of Skype conversations with local and international artists, curators, facilitators and organisers to learn about their practice. We will explore the need for creative networks and the challenges and successes in the art sector. These conversations will be transcribed and included in an ongoing publication.
Sunday 18th August: Closing Event, 12:00pm-5:00pm
We invite visitors to join us in a collaborative activity-led session of discussion, learning and reflection. The responses from these discussions (in the form of writing, doodling, mark-making) can become part of the publication UnderExposed will be compiling throughout its residency.
To end the event, the publication will be hand-bound to include responses from everyone who participated on the day and throughout the residency: a collaborative experience and object. All within a space, that will acknowledge – through an installation on the barge – the artists that submitted incredible work for our first Open Call.
Free but please sign up here.
