Zine-making workshop for kids age 8-12

9 April 2018
9:30 am
2:30 pm

Are you 8-12 years old?
Do you like asking questions?
Do you want to learn how to make your own zine?

If the answer is yes, then why not join us at ONCA for our zine-making workshop?

This hands-on workshop gets children thinking and expressing themselves creatively through photography and zine making. Run by art & kids’ philosophy teacher Rachel Poulton and photographer Katie-Jane Watson, the day will encourage children to find new ways of seeing and inspire creativity, enthusiasm and independent thinking. Children will take away a cool zine and a belief that asking questions is an essential part of living a curious, creative life.

The day

  • After introductions, we will start by looking at an image or story that inspires children to explore a philosophical question together.
  • Participants then learn how to take photographs that represent the ideas generated through their discussions.
  • Finally, participants bring their photographs and ideas together to make zines that express their thoughts and feelings.

zine is a DIY magazine. It is often simply produced and can involve cut and paste collage, handwritten text, photographs, art, drawings, opinions and original thought.
