The Pig in Thin Air: author’s book reading/ discussion

1 June 2016
7:45 pm
9:15 pm

This event is an introduction to The Pig in Thin Air, Alex Lockwood’s new book. The session will include a warm-up/ provocation to introduce the idea of human/ nonhuman entanglement, a chance to see video of some of the work done at the moment in animal advocacy and encounter (non-graphic), and then a reading from the book. This will be followed by Q&A and discussion with Alex, and an opportunity to buy signed copies of the book.
Biog:
Alex is a writer living in Newcastle and senior lecturer in the Centre for Research in Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Sunderland. He completed a PhD in Creative Writing at Newcastle University, exploring self-identity, psychoanalysis and affect. The Pig in Thin Air explores the place of the body in animal advocacy, and chronicles Alex’s journey around Canada and the United States in 2014, exploring animal advocacy and the animal rights movement there.

The event is suitable for adults and accompanied children. It’s free, but donations are warmly encouraged either on the evening or online – https://onca.org.uk/donations/

If you would like to attend a writing workshop led by Alex directly before the book reading, please sign up for that separately here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/trust-the-human-animal-writers-workshop-with-alex-lockwood-tickets-24563526168
