The Disaster Has Already Happened

14 June 201715 June 2017

decolonise

The violence of colonialism and its far reaching legacies has done much to shape the world we live in. Such violences will continue to mark the conditions of our lives and the lives of the most vulnerable among us unless there are concerted efforts to resist, dismantle and reimagine our world.

Education systems play a central role in either the reinforcement of these colonial paradigms, or in the generating of new ways of thinking and being and teaching in the world. Whilst the university as we know it might never be fully decolonised, there are processes we can engage in that will move us in the right direction.

Join scholars and students from across the University of Sussex for a two-day series of presentations and workshops to dissect our curricula, share best practice, and begin to navigate the immense possibilities and secret discomforts of exploring what it really means to decolonise the world we live in.

You are welcome to attend for as little or as much as you can over both days. Each session will require no previous preparation, only an openness to new ideas and a willingness to engage.
