Political Drag: workshop with Leah Kirby AKA Cyro

24 June 2021
2:30 pm
4:30 pm

Political Drag with Leah Kirby AKA Cyro: creating art inciting change and incorporating non-Western performance techniques, Leah Kirby / Cyro explores socio-economic and political issues through non-traditional formats.

Thursday 24 June 2.30 – 4.30pm, online via Zoom

In this workshop, Cyro dissects their practice and techniques when it comes to building drag performance around the black trans experience: How to consider mental care when delving into art that centres ‘honouring your anger’ and voicing underrepresented narratives through queer art? This workshop will allow participants to begin making political drag through their own lens. Participants can bring something to use as a stimulus – this can be an object, material, picture… something that has significance or meaning to you. You will be building a piece with Cyro there to support and mentor you. This is about letting go of judgement, and allowing your experience and voice to come through in your art. If you have a device that has access to the internet please bring it with you, and something to write or take down notes with. We can’t wait to see you there!

Book through the Brighton Fringe website. Workshop places are limited. This workshop is for POC. BSL interpretation is available.
