O N C A By the Sea

Join ONCA for a week of events on the Goodall Foundation’s ‘The Barge’ at Brighton Marina. All events will be free and open to all. For details of what’s happening when, check out our programme!
Please note the below are drop in workshops for the whole family, attendance is not required for the full day. All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
TUES 15TH 12-6PM – RISE RISE RISE
WORKSHOP: Banner making, come and make your own sea-themed banner inspired by the work of Liam Geary Baulch
WED 16TH 12-6PM – LISTEN WITH YOUR EYES, LISTEN WITH YOUR EARS (PART 1)
WORKSHOP, 12-3pm: Join artist Louise Lily Gibson for ‘BSL on The Barge’. A 2 hour workshop involving British Sign Language and sea creatures, followed by an informal final hour to test out all that you have learnt.
FILM, 3-6pm: Films by artists Felix Prater and Jules Varnedoe will be shown throughout the afternoon on the barge
WORKSHOP AROUND THE MARINA 3-6pm: Local artist Tom Nicholson will be holding a participatory ‘sound recording walk’ around the Marina. Capture you own sounds that will be used to produce a unique sound installation, come back on the Friday and hear the finished piece!
THURS 17TH 12-6PM – KITES FOR LOST SPECIES
WORKSHOP: Make your own kites of creatures who float glide or swim, and learn how to screen print all whilst finding out about extinct animals
FRIDAY 18TH 12-6PM – LISTEN WITH YOUR EYES, LISTEN WITH YOUR EARS (PART 2)
INSTALLATION: Tom Nicholson will be showcasing the final outcome of participatory sound recordings around the marina
SAT 19TH 12-9PM – JAWS DAY
WORKSHOP, 12-5pm: Spend an afternoon making shark props and learning about sharks – they are not as bad as you think. In fact they are awesome.
FILM AND PERFORMANCE, 6-9pm: Join us in the evening for a one-off showing of the classic film JAWS, complete with bad live voice overs and DIY props and effects.

SUNDAY 20TH 12-3PM – MORNING JAM/CLOSING PARTY
DANCE, 12-3pm: Canada’s very own Tricia Enns will host a morning dance session for anyone and everyone. Can’t dance? It doesn’t matter – come and join in anyway!
