Lorenza Ippolito // Alex Golding // Ann Light // Guyan Porter

This event is a panel discussion as part of the ongoing project ManMade by Boca2mouth. The discussion will be an open ended conversation about connections between human beings, technology and nature. This will not be a place for solutions, rather here we want to present a theme and develop a discussion.

Lorenza Ippolito is a visual artist working with still and moving image to create art works that focus on themes of identity, belonging and nostalgia. Her current practice also engages with and explores the idea of public conversation through bringing together artists, ‘experts’ and diverse audiences in the same temporal and geographical space.

Alex Golding‘s research background is in linguistics, but she is also interested in embodied cognition. In other words, she is fascinated in the crossovers between language and our embodiment.

Ann Light is a design researcher and provocative thinker about our future with technology. She leads the Creative Technology Research Group at the University of Sussex.

Guyan Porter is an artist and writer based in the South East of England. He set up his first studio in Glasgow in 1994, organising, exhibiting in and curating artist led projects and multi media arts events. His practice incorporates sculpture, installation, architectural intervention, political dialogue and events combining performance, music and visual art. Showing work in non arts spaces, he has also worked with major organisations throughout the world.

This event is part of the research project MANMADE in which 6 artists are exploring concepts of humankind. What does it mean to be human?

Further workshop information:

Drawing From Inside – Jim Sanders

Jim will be leading a collaborative drawing. There will be a table with a long piece of paper where you will be able to draw and paint in relation to Jims’ suggestions of ideas and motifs around the project, ManMade.

Making Music – Ed Briggs

You will be able to play with a combination of sounding instruments both analogic (e.g. percussion) and digital, to experience the basics of music and sound and how this later can be manipulated by the computer.

A Textural experience – Victoria Petty

Victoria will welcome you to come and sample different fabrics blindfolded or with eyes closed. First you feel the fabric then respond to any emotions or thoughts that come up through writing and movement.

What Words Say – Xelís de Toro

By playing with a series of devices and games: book roulette, dices, picking brains, you will be guided to write first a sentence, and then paragraphs, until you have created a whole phrase. You can offer these words or text to a collaborative writing piece.

Say it with the body – Mim King

By discussing with Mim King you will be able to find, create and discover postures, movements in relation to your emotional ideas. You can take these postures and movements to the final station.

Body Tracking Movements – Benedict Sheehan

Have a direct experience of moving in a space and triggering a collection of content like texts, visuals and videos to be projected onto a screen. The content projected into the walls will be the result of communal work created by those in the space.
