We were delighted to host Alicia Radage as artist in residence on ONCA Barge, August – September 2021. This residency was made possible through support from the Arts Council/ DCMS Culture Recovery Fund.
Alicia’s work manifests through performance, video, photography and digital collage. Radage works to unpack histories of colonisation pertaining to the gendered body & geography – seeking alternatives to a reflexive politics of occupation. Radage’s practice reaches beyond the body and its political histories to a spiritualism that explores our collective human-animal existence.
Thank you ONCA for having me and for this wonderful opportunity to spend almost 2 weeks on this beautiful barge. It was such a joy to work with you! As soon as I stepped foot on the barge I felt inspired and infused with histories and potential. I spent every single day of my time in Brighton on the Barge for 8-12 hours. It was invaluable time to just create and make and let my work pour from me. I am at my happiest when I am consumed with my work without any pulls and pushes from elsewhere. The architecture and energy of the Barge coursed through me and I had to stop myself from making in order to make time to edit and install what I’d created.
The residency culminated in an installation open to the public for one evening.
