Children of the Evolution – an immersive performance

Entry between 7.30 & 7.45pm. The performance will last until approx 9.00pm

The question of which school to send your child to is a very important one. There has been much publicity around catchment areas and the need to give every child the same chances and opportunities, regardless of where they live and their background.

However, how much do you know about what your child is actually being taught in school? Local Academies and private schools have already adjusted their teaching, and offer ‘personalised pathways’.  There have been rumours that a massive shake-up to the curriculum of four of the state schools in Brighton & Hove is planned.  Now these plans for the future are being shared with the public at an open meeting.

The Brighton Education Skills Taskforce (BEST) have called a public consultation meeting (with the support of BHCC Children & Education). You will be able to find out all about their plans to launch a new 21st Century skills curriculum here in Brighton & Hove.  These 21st Century skills have been described as ‘essential abilities that today’s students need to succeed in their careers during the Information Age.’

The BEST proposal is for Brighton & Hove to lead the way in implementing the new curriculum.
In this exciting new format children will experience lessons wholly centred around skills such as creativity, collaboration and communication. Obviously, there is a need to trial and evaluate this new approach and BEST support Evidence-based Education.  So, initially, the Year 7 intake at local schools will be divided up into experimental and control groups to evaluate the new approach before it is rolled out in full. We will discuss how the pupils will be allocated and the different options available.

At the consultation meeting there will be representatives from BEST, local schools (teachers and governors), BHCC Children & Education and other key stakeholders. The formal meeting starts at 7.45, but it is recommended that interested parties come earlier (any time from 7.30) to familiarise yourself with these proposals.
