4 Reasons why you should support our Christmas #ONCAcrowdfunder

9 December 2019

This Christmas, ONCA is raising £20,000 to go towards our programme of creative, social and environmental projects in 2020.

Here are four reasons why we need your support to make our target!

1. You can help us to empower children and young people!

School Strike 4 Climate

At ONCA, we deliver and support ecological and creative learning activities for children, young people & families. With your support, we will hold our first ever children and young people’s art exhibition, open to all young residents across Brighton & Hove.

We will offer 50% of the spaces on our half term workshops on the Barge for free to children and young people from low income families in East Brighton.

We will also continue to dedicate support to our local Youth Strike 4 Climate group (and other young people) responding to the current climate crisis.

2. You can help us to tackle loneliness & promote social inclusion in East Brighton!

At ONCA, we support local artists, groups and organisations in Brighton & Hove to deliver projects and exhibitions that explore environmental and social issues, and promote community solidarity.

We’ve recently launched our ONCA Barge Community mornings, where we provide a warm and inclusive space for people experiencing social isolation to come together over cups of tea, to meet their neighbours and our friendly staff and volunteers. Your money will help pay for tea/coffee, comfortable furniture and resources for environmental learning including books, art materials and board games.

3. You can help us to support under-represented groups in the arts!

At ONCA we facilitate opportunities for artists to develop their creative practices, receive professional development guidance and engage in peer-led networking.

We also host residencies for socially engaged artists who want to research and develop work in response to environmental and social challenges.

In 2020 we want to offer two residencies specifically to artists who face barriers to involvement and employment in the arts, such as people of colour, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities and people from working-class backgrounds.

4. You can help us cover core costs!

We tirelessly work to fundraise to meet our overhead costs. Your support will make a big difference in helping towards staff development, volunteer recruitment and organisational growth. With your help we can deliver on our commitments and continue our community outreach work.
