Exhibition launch event // Tuesday 24 July, 6 – 8pm

What We Do: Inclusive Collaboration In Practice is an exhibition by 7 artists from social care, education, the arts and community sectors who are also all recent graduates from the University of Brighton MA Inclusive Arts Practice course. Inclusive Arts Practice MA is a dynamic, radical and socially engaged practice that facilitates new conversations and approaches to education and societal structures through arts-based dialogue and collaboration.

As a part of the University of Brighton MA IAP, students developed and implemented individual practice-based research projects relevant to the field of inclusive arts. These projects took the form of conversations, dances, performances, walks and creative collaborations in a range of painterly, photographic and sculptural mediums. Collaborations took place with a diverse range of participants including the elderly and vulnerable, people with learning disabilities, people with complex needs, those with hidden disabilities and people with experience of homelessness. Throughout this week long exhibition, we will be running seminars and workshops that reflect the work we do. Everyone is welcome!

Wednesday 25 July – Sunday 29 July // Public vote for MYBRIGHTON&HOVE Photo Project

In June, 100 people with experience of homelessness were given single use cameras for 5 days to capture their perspectives of Brighton & Hove. These images have been judged by a panel of photography experts and those with experience of homelessness. The top 20 are revealed for the first time. Come and see these unique narratives of Brighton & Hove and vote for your favourite. The top 13 images voted for by the public will feature in the MYBRIGHTON&HOVE calendar 2019. The calendar is sold by participants so they can earn money and be part of the entire process, and any profits from calendar sales are donated to local Brighton Homeless services.

This project is managed by Inclusive Arts Practice student Lucy Groenewoud in partnership with Cafe Art, and follows on from her research using photography working collaboration with those with experience of homelessness.

Wednesday 25 July, 12pm – 4pm // 80’s Drop In Reminiscence Workshop FREE

Come and relive the 80’s! Or visit the 80’s for the first time! Dee and Lucy will be running a family friendly drop in session.

Bring along treasured photos or mementos of your 80’s to collectively discuss and share memories. Reminiscence workshops help to re-awaken people’s memories of their experiences and their lives. They can be used to share memories, to start a conversation, to communicate, to give emotional and social stimulation. They are a great sensory way to relive a time period and a fantastic way for anyone to connect to a time period and awaken new creative ideas.
