SUMMARY:ONCA's Winter Clothes Swap
DESCRIPTION:Bring your pre-loved clothes to ONCA for an evening of swap shopping! We’re having our annual Winter Clothes Swap at the end of the month and you’re all invited. In 2023 our Clothes Swaps saved 592 items from landfill and we intend to increase that number this year! So join us solo or come with friends for some chilled swap shopping and enjoy a refreshment from the bar whilst trying on new wears.\n\nHow our clothes swap works: \n\nBring your clean\, pre-loved clothes and accessories. Please don’t bring anything that needs to go straight to recycling/the incinerator.\nPlease count your items before arrival – there are no rules on quantities that you bring or swap\, this just helps us track impact!\nWe’ll help you put your clothes on display for others to see\nHave a look and find some clothes and accessories to take home.\n\nWe have a limited number of tickets available online but will also have tickets available on the door. However please note that booked tickets will get priority entry at busy times and if the event reaches capacity there may be a short wait for entry. Tickets are £3 online / £4 on the door. \nPlease note this a welcoming and supportive space\, open to all sizes. As all clothes are donated on the night we cannot guarantee what items will be available. There will be a changing space on the ground floor where people can try on clothes. \nBook Here \nThis event is part of the Dresscue Project\, encouraging creative practices in making\, mending and up-cycling to extend the life of clothing. All the fund we raise go back to supporting ONCA’s creative learning projects. So you get to support us\, get rid of your dusty wears and find yourself some new wardrobe wonders! \nIF ONLINE TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT MORE TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE DOOR. \nAccessibility\nThis event is suitable for all ages but ask that under 16s are accompanied by an adult. \nONCA gallery is wheelchair accessible however the toilet is up five stairs. There are accessible toilets close by\, please read more about visiting the gallery here. If you have any access requirements please let us know using the Accessibility Request Form. If you need support accessing this please call 01273 607101 email info@onca.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Intro to sewing evenings: Make A Pullover
DESCRIPTION:Intro to sewing is the perfect workshop for absolute beginners as well as people who want to build confidence on a sewing machine. \nJoin us on board ONCA’s Barge and learn the processes involved in making your own made-to-measure LB pullover designed by Paper Theory. At the end of the workshop\, you’ll leave wearing your hand-made creation! \nThis course is delivered as two evening classes\, so please make sure you can attend both evenings when booking: \nThursday 7 July\, 6pm-8:30pm \nThursday 14 July\, 6pm-8:30pm \nWhat will be covered: \n\nTaking your measurements\nReading and understanding a sewing pattern\nThreading and using a sewing machine\nStep by step construction\n\nWhat will be provided: \n\nA printed LB Pullover pattern (sizes 6 – 28) with step by step guide for use in the workshop and to take home\nUse of our PFAFF Domestic sewing machines\, overlocker and tools\nUnlimited supply of teas\, coffees and biscuits\n\nWhat you will need to bring: \n\nFabric of your choice. Please see fabric consumption chart below to work out how much fabric to bring (You can email sally@onca.org.uk for advice). Fabric should be pre-washed and ironed – this is because some fabric shrinks when washed for the first time. Choose a non-stretch fabric as this is easiest for new sewers.\nOne spool of matching thread\nAs this course is delivered over 2 evenings\, you may wish to bring some snacks/ dinner with you.\n\nOn the fabric consumption chart below\, the left column refers to the width that fabric often comes in (115cm/ 150cm). Once you’ve found the fabric you want to use\, look at the width on the roll of fabric and then you can refer to your size on the chart to work out how much to get. For example\, a size 16 buying fabric on a 150cm roll would need to get 1.25mtrs of fabric.  \n \nThis event is part of the Dresscue Project\, encouraging creative practices in making\, mending and up-cycling to extend the life of clothing. Join Dresscue every Friday between 10am and 1pm to use ONCA’s drop-in sewing space.

SUMMARY:Creating Wearable Sculptural Masks with Anna Perach
DESCRIPTION:Join artist Anna Perach for a creative exploration building wearable sculptural masks aboard the ONCA Barge. \nDuring this two hour workshop\, Anna will introduce the process of creating a 3D mask sculpture using hand stitch and patchworking fabric. No previous experience is necessary and all tools and materials will be provided. If you would like to bring your own fabric\, you are welcome to do so. \nAbout the artist\nAnna Perach’s practice explores the dynamics between personal and cultural myths. She is interested in how our private narratives are deeply rooted in ancient folklore and storytelling\, and her work interweaves feminine archetypes into sculptural hybrids in order to examine ideas of identity\, gender\, and craft. \nAnna’s main medium of work is wearable sculpture and performance. Using a technique called tufting\, she makes carpet textiles\, which she transforms into wearable sculptures\, examining how elements associated with the domestic sphere such as textiles and carpet operate as an extension of the self and reflect one’s heritage and gender role. In performances the tufted\, domestic carpet serves as an external added layer of skin\, which hides the physical body but exposes fragments of the self. \nAnna Perach (1985\, USSR) is a Ukrainian born Israeli artist living and working in London\, UK. She holds an MFA in fine art (distinction) from Goldsmiths\, University of London (2020). She has exhibited internationally at galleries including: White Cube gallery\, London\, UK\, Live Works\, Centrale Feis\, Italy\, Saatchi Gallery. London\, UK and Larsen Warner gallery in Stockholm\, Sweden. In 2020 she was a finalist at the Birth Rites Collection Biennial Competition for New Works and The Ingram Prize. Anna also received a grant for the production of new work from Procreate Project via the Arts Council England. Recent publications include Floorr Magazine and Calvert Journal. \nWebsite | Instagram
