Gallery Supervisor Vacancy

ONCA is an art gallery, co-working space and environmental charity. Established in 2012 we support the wellbeing of people and places by increasing awareness of, and engagement with, environmental and social challenges. We are a space for meeting, thinking, learning and celebrating art, always encouraging artists and audiences to ask big questions about difficult issues. We are passionate about inclusion and accessibility, through our gallery and outreach programme we aim to engage a wide range of audiences and support artists at all stages of their careers.

In this part time evening/weekend role you will be responsible for overseeing the gallery and volunteers during exhibitions and events, providing front of house and administrative support to ONCA’s core staff.

Responsibilities are likely to include but not limited to:

  • Oversee volunteers during exhibitions and events
  • Support artists/hirers with event delivery
  • Oversee the installation and deconstruction of exhibitions, including any painting/repair work
  • Oversee data capture for events, workshop and exhibitions
  • Respond to face to face gallery rental enquiries
  • Oversee artwork and shop sales
  • Work with volunteers to promote gallery donations, Giftaid and membership sign ups
  • Assist with monthly newsletters, social media and website content occasionally
  • Basic admin and research tasks
  • Ensure fire safety, health & safety and inclusion policies are upheld
  • Basic cleaning and maintenance tasks
  • Uphold ONCA’s environmental values, ensuring our working practices are as ethical and sustainable as possible

Person Specification

Skills Required (essential):

  • Applicants must be 18 or over
  • Passion for arts and the environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to inclusion and accessibility
  • Good communication skills (both written & verbal)
  • Ability to manage own workload
  • Ability to stay calm in busy working environments
  • IT Proficiency
  • Experience using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

Skills Required (desirable):

  • Experience of supervising others
  • First Aid training
  • Fire Safety training
  • Ability to interact with vulnerable people and manage difficult situations  
  • Experience of design software (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator etc)
  • Experience of WordPress & Mailchimp
