O N C A Climate Justice Education Symposium

19 March
10:00 am
4:00 pm

£6.00 - £30.00

Climate change is proceeding at a pace that exceeds all predictions. How can schools and educators keep up with it?

Children are striking across the world in protest against school curriculums that are failing them: failing to engage deeply with the severity of the situation; failing to teach about colonialism and extractivism’s historic and ongoing injustices; failing to equip them with thinking and practical skills to respond to these challenges and legacies.

One of Youth Strike 4 Climate’s key demands is ‘Teach the Future’ – that the education system is reformed to teach young people about the urgency, severity and scientific basis of the climate crisis.

Yet teachers are expected to keep the atmosphere in the classroom positive, whilst many feel overwhelmed or grief stricken or simply lacking the time and resources to engage with climate breakdown and climate justice.

To explore these topics and generate intergenerational strategies for positive change, ONCA and Youth Strike 4 Climate Brighton are co-hosting a day for teachers and other educators working with children and young people aged 4-18, and for students aged 16+ looking to engage with climate justice education and curriculum design.

This day will include sessions and talks with:

and more.

Break-out / open space sessions will explore topics including:

  • Co-producing the curriculum
  • Sharing examples of good practice
  • Taking care of ourselves and each other

Come to the ONCA Barge at Brighton Marina for a day of reflection, inspiration, network-building and nurture. Expect to leave revitalised, with new insights, teaching tools and connections.
